About Us

The Austin Sutta Sangha is a small but dedicated group of meditators who meet weekly to support each others practice.

Meditation guidance can come from all kinds of sources, the facilitators of this community lean on the earliest teachings of the historical Buddha - the suttas of the Pali Canon.

The suttas are just conversations between the Buddha and people from all walks of life, and the wisdom in these stories are just as helpful today as they were 2,500 years ago.

Our goal is to make these teachings accessible and approachable, so practitioners can develop their own understanding and utilize what is helpful to them.

The Teachings of the Buddha

The Buddha taught for over 40 years and and the suttas of the Pali Canon reveal a path through the difficulties of life that can be kind and joyful.

They go beyond any particular method or school and point to a direct, experiential understanding of how the mind works, how it benefits from wholesome states, and how it can meet life with less resistance.

The teachings of the Buddha are available to anyone and everyone - feel free to use whatever helps you to find peace in yourself and your relationships.

Meet the guides

Adam has 25 years of practice in various Buddhist traditions and has studied the suttas of of the Pali Canon for the past 15 years. As an artist and meditation teacher, his goal is to help students develop their own independent understanding of what the Buddha was pointing to, so they can explore an enjoyable and fulfilling practice that’s unique to their life.

Cass is a psychologist, researcher, and educator with a Ph.D. from UT Austin. As a meditation teacher, she bridges her expertise in modern mental health with her training in early Buddhist teachings, creating a research-informed, uplifting experience for meditators. Her teaching is warm and practical, grounded in both the science of wellbeing and the heart of the tradition.

Testimonials

“Adam was a great guide on the retreat. He made me feel so welcome and in very safe hands. Whenever I struggled, he found the right words to say to bring me back on track – whether it was advice on technique, reframing some mental block, or sharing insights from his own practice and life. I couldn’t have wished for somebody better.”

—Stefan - London, United Kingdom

“Cassandra is simply an inspiring meditation teacher. The Easter 2025 retreat offered a powerful mix of deep insight, loving-kindness, and genuine warmth. Cass makes early Buddhist teachings come alive with clarity and compassion. I felt supported, confident, and guided every step of the way. The practice led to deep calm, clarity, and moments of profound inner stillness. I recommend her retreats to anyone seeking real transformation”

“Good friends, companions, and comradery are the whole of the spiritual life.

A practitioner with good friends, companions, and comradery can expect to develop and cultivate the noble eightfold path…

right perspective, right intention, right communication, right action, right livelihood, right effort, right mindfulness, and right collectedness…”
